Lionel Catalan, P.Eng.
Dr. Lionel Catalan obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from École Nationale Supérieure des Industries Chimiques in Nancy, France (1989). After moving to Canada, he received his master’s (1990) and Ph.D.
(1993) in Chemical Engineering from University of Waterloo, Ontario. Following a postdoctoral fellowship with the Porous Media Research Institute in Waterloo, he worked as a research engineer at the Noranda Technology Centre in Pointe Claire, Quebec between 1994 and 1999 on a variety of projects for the petroleum and mining industries.

Lionel Catalan is Full Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.Catalan was appointed as an Assistant Professor to the Department of Chemical Engineering at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1999 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2008. He was named Canada Research Chair in Industrial Waste Management and Site Remediation (2001 – 2011) and served as Chair of the Chemical Engineering department at Lakehead University between 2010 and 2019.
